Kuala Selangor

Information and Travel Guide

The River that meets the sea is the foundation of Kuala Selangor Town and all its villagesA long time ago, Kuala Selangor was the state's royal capital and an important stronghold over the tin mining industry that defined the early history of Malaysia. Later, it was conquered by colonial powers such as the Dutch and British before her return to national soil. Eventually, over time, it trangressed into a sleepy coastal town and the population spread into various traditional fishing villages surrounding the area.

Today, it no longer plays any part of its historical role and functions. It has, instead, become a popular destination for eco-tourism in the form of firefly watching and mangrove exploration, while being a reputed culinary heaven for seafood delights. The town is located at the base of a large river mouth that feeds directly into the sea, its name meaning ''Confluence of the Selangor River', referring to its geographical position. Just like the past, the river continues to be a source of livelihood for the people who live here, mainly through commercial fishing (which in turn supplies fresh seafood the the restaurants) and the tourism industry (fireflies at night along the mangroves and culinary adventures). Despite the poor network of roads that lead here, Kuala Selangor continues to grow in popularity among visitors as its attractions are like no other within the state, while its food and restaurants has become legendary among locals.
