Kampung Belimbing

Kampung Belimbing is one of two viewing places for fireflies in Kuala Selangor. It is located further downstream of the river compared to Kampung Kuantan, the other firefly place. This translates to a broader firefly viewing point with a larger portion of the river to explore and traverse by boat. The private company that operates the firefly watching activities also run a chalet resort, recreational park and seafood restaurant within the grounds facing the jetty. This little village can be reached via a turn off on the right from the main road just after Pasir Penambang. A short 6 km journey by car on tarred road will take visitors past palm oil estates, pleasant countryside scenery and rustic houses. Kampung Belimbing lies at a sharp corner of the road where its bold signages and lights will catch your attention. Travelling any further on the road takes you to Kampung Kuantan and connects to the main road to Kuala Selangor.

Parking lots are available for free in front of the complex. The ticket counter at the entrance opens at 7pm and currently costs MYR15 per adult. Visitors then proceed inside through a landscaped garden (where the chalets are) before reaching the jetty, where they are strapped to life jackets before clambering aboard squarish motorised boats that come with built-in canopy. These boats, which fit about eight people on board, use silent motors to skim slowly across the river surface to the mangroves. The fireflies congregate on the branches and leaves, flashing brightly but randomly. If you fancy a stay in this place, then the firefly park offers budget accommodation in chalets on stilts built across a fetid pond. Silver leaf monkeys can be seen during the day around the recreational park.
