Museums

Kuala Selangor

The two museums in Kuala Selangor are both located on Bukit Melawati, one mid-way before the peak and the other on the summit. These two places provide a historical lesson of Kuala Selangor and the traditional Malay arts and games popular in this country. Entry for visitors and tourists is free, but you do have to register at the reception desk in both places as you enter. Do keep your voice down in both museums, as the environment is very dark and quiet, so you don't want to disrupt the atmosphere. Photography, including flash, is still allowed.
Historical Museum
Kuala Selangor Historical Museum
The Kuala Selangor historical museum sits on the peak of Bukit Melawati, just behind the light house. This is a good place to learn about the history of Kuala Selangor from displays of artifacts, relics, dioramas, weapons and coins, most of which were excavated in the past from the hill itself. The five galleries are rather small, but they pack a lot of info. The museum used to be a colonial mansion to house the district office in the past.

Traditional Arts Museum
Traditional Arts and Games Museum
The traditional arts and games museum sits on a slope halfway up to Bukit Melawati. Visitors are greeted by a display of statues depicting Malay youths playing a traditional game of 'bola raga' at the entrance. This museum is dedicated to preserving and displaying the local games played by Malays, usually in traditional villages. Some games include 'congkak'; played with beads and a long piece of wood with concaves and 'gasing'; spinning tops.
